A personal journey
Dr. Kowata is very familiar with a life of following natural medicine. When she was a young girl, her beloved family pediatrician, “Dr. Sam”, decided to retire his practice and transition into teaching. When no one was able to fill his shoes, her mother began reading holistic health books and started treating their family of seven using food nutrition and vitamins. Her mother, an excellent cook, was a true forerunner of the Whole Foods diet movement. A family interest in homeopathy quickly arose and became a favored mode of treatment. Her most dramatic memory was seeing her five-year-old brother respond to natural treatment for second degree burns on his hands. She feels fortunate to have experienced the virtues of naturopathic medicine as a patient, as well as being able to pursue it as a profession. Dr. Kowata credits Dr. Sam as her inspiration to become a doctor and her mother for her interest in natural medicine. She continues in her mother’s footsteps today treating her own family with whole foods, healthy lifestyle choices and nutritional supplements.
